Ursula Dekassian M.A
Ursula Dekassian is a contemporary artist based between Austria and Germany. She studied Media Education at the Free University of Berlin, specializing in documentary film and photography, and developed artistic projects in Berlin, Recife (Brazil), and South India. She later completed a Master's degree in Art Therapy at the Berlin-Weißensee Academy of Art, an experience that broadened her understanding of perception and creative processes while remaining distinct from her artistic practice.
Since 2014, Dekassian has devoted herself to painting as her primary medium. Her work explores the intersection of abstraction and lived experience, translating memory, movement, and emotional states into layered visual compositions. Through expressive colour, textured surfaces, and an intuitive process, she creates works that balance spontaneity with structural depth.
Working across painting and sculpture, she investigates materiality as a carrier of memory and transformation. Documentary observation, personal experience, and abstraction converge in works that invite contemplation rather than narration.
Her work has been exhibited in Germany, Austria, and Spain. Alongside her artistic practice, she lectures in Visual Arts at a vocational academy for social education.
Ursula Dekassian lives and works in Austria and Germany.
